The beauty of the Northern Lights awaits.

A school trip to Reykjavík is ideal for groups in search of a breathtaking and unforgettable educational experience.

Iceland, as a whole, has it all. It’s ideal for anyone studying Leisure & Tourism, Geography, or STEM. The rugged landscape is beautiful, while the people are warm and welcoming (contrary to the climate).

Set on the southwestern coast, the capital city, Reykjavík, is the perfect base for school groups to explore the rest of the island. It’s well-connected and many of the most famous attractions are only a short drive away. It also has an easy-going lifestyle, fresh cuisine, safe streets, and a real appreciation for art, music and culture.

We absolutely love taking schools to Iceland. And it seems they love going – year after year, it proves to be one of our most popular destinations. So if you’d like to join them, get in touch and we’ll help you book your next school tour.

Why Choose Reykjavík For An Educational Tour?

Entry point to a geological wonderland

Iceland has an almost endless list of incredible geological features. Waterfalls, rivers, volcanoes, icebergs, beaches, caves, mountains, glaciers. It goes on and on and on.

And Reykjavík is the best spot to reach them all from. One highlight our groups love is the famed Golden Circle, a 300km loop of Iceland’s biggest tourist attractions, like Thingvellir, Strokkur, and Gullfoss. Reykjavík sits at the start and end of the tour, which can actually be done in just one day.

Modern capital city

Once you’re done in nature, and after a long day of touring, you’ll likely be exhausted – ready to flop into bed at the hotel and get ready for tomorrow’s adventures.

Pupils, though, often have endless energy. Fortunately, there’s plenty to keep them busy in the evenings. Reykjavík has all the hallmarks of a leading European city – a buzzy, but sophisticated, city centre filled with galleries, museums, theatres, cafes, restaurants, and far more.

It’s this unique environment that makes our school tours to Iceland so exciting and enriching. Your students will witness sights they’ve never seen before – jets of water blown 20 meters high, smoking hot lava fields, the inside of a volcano’s magma chamber, and… the Northern Lights (if you’re lucky).

Why Choose Iceland For An Educational Tour?

    Geological wonders

Learning about geography from a textbook is one thing. Seeing it in action is another.

Iceland has an unrivalled mix of geological wonders that will bring your curriculum to life. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to discover geothermal and tectonic activity, renewable energy, powerful waterfalls, raging rivers, glaciers, volcanos and caves all in one diverse landscape.

Visits to Thingvellar National Park, Kerið Crater, the Blue Lagoon, Strokkur Geyser, the Eldhruan Lava Fields, the black sand beaches and basalt caves at Vik, and the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall are the very tip of the iceberg (speaking of which, you’ll see plenty of at Jökulsárlón).

    Unique culture

As a nation of just 370,000 people, most of whom are in the capital, Reykjavik, people tend to know each other or have mutual friends. That helps foster an easygoing, progressive, and welcoming culture.

Reykjavik is a cosmopolitan, safe capital city. Your students will find a sophisticated cultural scene – galleries, museums, theatres, street art, live music, and so on.

Plus, there’s the incredibly fresh cuisine. The seafood is, naturally, fantastic. But if your students are feeling brave, they could try some traditional delicacies – fermented shark (Hákarl) is one of the strangest foods our Iceland tour experts have ever tried.

    Stunning sights and experiences

We’ve touched on this already, but Iceland has so much for students to see and do.

They can relax in the hot springs, swim in geothermal lakes, sail out for a whale-watching tour, and walk behind waterfalls. The list goes on and on.

But perhaps the most famous sight of all is the Northern Lights. A true bucket-list item. If you’re there at the right time of year (October to March is best), we’ll organise a guided tour where your students will learn about the solar processes that cause the aurora borealis and, with a little bit of fortune, witness them in action.

      Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on how long you stay and your activities. We generally recommend at least 3-4 days to see the main sights, but you may wish to stay longer for a more comprehensive tour.

It depends on what you’re after. The best time to see the Northern Lights is between October and March, but that’s also the coldest time of year with more unpredictable weather (which may cause road closures and impact your itinerary). If you want to do more outdoor activities, late Spring to early Autumn is a good choice. In short, you can book an educational trip to Iceland for any time of year and it will be fantastic, but there some trade-offs to weigh up. Our advisers can help you decide.

Students only need a valid passport, which must expire more than 3 months after your return date. There are no visa requirements for British citizens travelling to Iceland, provided none of your students have visited the Schengen Area for more than 90 days in a 180 day period.

Given the distance (and the small matter of the North Atlantic Ocean), our groups fly to Iceland – usually from London or Manchester. Once you’re there, you’ll have a coach to transport your group around the country. Most visits and activities are within easy reach of Reykjavik, where you’ll be based.

Why Choose London For An Educational Tour?

      History around every corner

With so much of the primary and secondary school curricula focusing on British history, London has an almost endless supply of artefacts and attractions to support your classroom learning.

Students can explore everything from the Tudors at the Tower of London to the Blitz at the Imperial War Museum. Meanwhile, the Churchill War Rooms haven’t been touched since 1945. Your class will see the actual map room where WWII operations were planned, with pencil marks still visible.

      Literature in motion

Struggling to get Year 9 interested in Shakespeare?

Then let’s bring it to life. At the Globe Theatre, they’ll watch actors deliver the Bard’s famous lines exactly as audiences did 400 years ago.

Afterwards, you can head north of the river, across the Millennium Bridge, to Charles Dickens’ former home. It’s now a museum dedicated to his life and stories, allowing your students to learn more about one of our greatest writers.

And then, of course, there are the West End shows – a phenomenal experience for all, but in particular for theatre and drama students.

      “Wow!” moments

As you walk into the Natural History Museum, watch your pupils lift their heads in wonder at the Blue Whale skeleton, suspended in the air of the entrance hall. You may have seen it before, but it’s a mind-blowing experience for young minds.

It’s what we call a “Wow!” moment. It’s when your pupils light up with excitement and genuine interest, and suddenly learning becomes easy.

London is full of these moments, offering brilliant value-for-money for UK schools.

Staying within the UK is a cost-effective choice for school groups, with London easily accessible by coach from all parts of the country. We can’t say how much it will cost exactly without discussing your planned activities, length of stay, and accommodation choices. Typically, however, it’s much cheaper than visiting mainland Europe. Please call our team for a full quote.

You can visit London all year round. Naturally, you should expect the weather to be worse through winter, so if you’re planning to be outdoors (for example, heading to a local theme park or enjoying a River Thames boat cruise) then you might want to aim for Spring or Summer. But it’s a special city in every season.

We will organise travel by coach for school groups visiting London. This is the easiest and most cost-effective option, plus it means you have private transport if needed. London traffic can be problematic, especially at peak hours, so there is also the London Underground and Overground rail network for transporting groups around the city.

        Amsterdam is anything but ordinary.

It’s a city of canals and bicycles, stroopwafels and street art, world-famous museums and eye-opening history. And it all fits into a walkable (or cyclable!), student-friendly package that’s ideal for school groups.

This is the place to see Van Gogh’s brushstrokes up close. To walk through Anne Frank’s secret hiding spot. To cruise the canals, learn about Dutch innovation, and maybe even pick up a bit of the language along the way.

An educational trip to Amsterdam is a go-to choice for many of our schools. It’s not too far (day trips are possible), yet different enough to feel like a proper adventure. Plus, the city hosts a wealth of learning opportunities across subjects like art, history, geography, and science.

So, if you’d like to take your students to the effortlessly cool, sustainable, and modern capital of the Netherlands, we’ll help you build the perfect itinerary. Get in touch today for advice, ideas and a free quote.

Why Choose Amsterdam For An Educational Tour?

        A case study in sustainability

Bikes outnumber people in Amsterdam (and across the Netherlands). That’s not just a fun fact for your students, it’s the starting point for understanding a society that values sustainability.

Take your geography students on a tour to experience the city’s famous bike lanes, canals and green spaces. They’ll gain practical insight into urban planning that actually works, and witness real-world environmental solutions in action, simply by exploring the city streets.

It’s perfect as a reference point for their end-of-year exams.

        History you can walk through

The Anne Frank House stands as one of the most powerful educational experiences in Europe. Students visit the actual rooms where Anne and her family hid, making an immediate and personal impression in a way that textbooks can not.

But that’s not the only history on display. In just twenty-five minutes, you can walk to the Rijksmuseum to see Rembrandt’s Night Watch and learn more about the Dutch Golden Age.

And if you want even more art, the Van Gogh and Stedelijk museums are a mere 300m away.

        STEM learning, but fun

Some museums have an unfortunate reputation as being a bit boring, especially for younger students. That is not the case in Amsterdam.

At the NEMO Science Museum, students work their way through five floors of hands-on, interactive exhibits. Outside the city, CORPUS offers an hour-long exploration through the human body, starting at the knee.

These experiences can aid your curriculum and inspire a passion for STEM subjects from all age groups.

          Frequently Asked Questions

Amsterdam is a relatively low-cost destination for school groups, although the total cost will depend on the number of nights you wish to visit. For a full, accurate quote, please get in touch.

Amsterdam is a good choice year-round. If you’re planning on visiting the city’s many museums, then this might make more sense over Autumn and Winter, before the weather starts to heat up in late Spring and Summer. Many groups choose to visit in November or December to coincide with Amsterdam’s famous Christmas Markets. As an added bonus, students can enjoy an afternoon of ice skating at the city’s Ice Village.

The easiest way to visit Amsterdam on a school trip is by coach. You’ll take the ferry across the English Channel, via Dover to Calais, and drive to Amsterdam from there. This takes around 4-5 hours.

Once you arrive, you’ll have full use of the coach each day for visits around the region. Some of the best attractions are located outside the city, so this is perfect.

          France has something for everyone.

          Ah, the classic French trip.

It’s a time-honoured tradition for some schools. A rite of passage for young students. An opportunity to practice language skills, go crazy for croissants, make new friends, and develop a sense of independence.

Our role is to make sure you and your students get the absolute most from the trip – regardless of your budget and learning objectives.

France is one of the most attractive destinations for our school groups. It offers a compelling cultural and language experience that is accessible to all. It doesn’t matter whether you study art, geography, history, maths, music, or science. France has something for everyone.

Test your nerve on the rollercoasters of Disneyland, witness the epic views from the Eiffel Tower, and follow the gaze of the Mona Lisa in the Louvre. Further afield, visit the Renoir museum in Nice, the Christmas Markets in Amiens, or a war memorial in Normandy.

The choice is yours. All you need to do is get in touch, and one of our team will help plan, book and organise your next school trip to France.

Why Choose France For An Educational Tour?

          History

Europe is brimming with historical experiences. And France is one of the best options for bringing a curriculum to life.

It’s a natural choice if you’re studying the World Wars. You can visit the site of Operation Dynamo in Dunkirk, the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy, or the battlefields of the First World War.

That’s not all. Learn more about the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, and the Renaissance through a range of museums, attractions, and workshops.

          Geography

With one of the world’s most famous mountain ranges, it’s no wonder our groups love a geography field trip to France.

Take in the rugged beauty of the Alps while learning about the millennia of tectonic and glacial movements it took for them to form. Or discover the impact years of tourism have had on alpine towns and villages, like Chamonix.

          Culture, Food & Language

Your students will likely be familiar with croissants and baguettes. But have they tried French onion soup, snails (escargot), or tartiflette? Have they seen how local boulangeries knead, shape and bake the perfect bread?

But it’s not just about eating delicious food. Through food and other aspects of the country’s culture, our school trips to France give students the chance to put their language skills into practice.

This is ideal for giving pupils a confidence boost ahead of speaking and listening exams. Moreover, it allows them to be inspired and flourish in a country that is revered globally for its cultural richness.

            Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on where you go and how long for. Plus, there’s the cost of different activities. We’ll keep it budget-friendly by organising a mix of activities tailored to your objectives. This will include both free (e.g. the Notre-Dame) and paid (e.g. the Louvre) attractions.

It depends where you’re going. Northern France, generally, is suitable year-round, although it’s best in the shoulder seasons (Spring and Autumn). Paris, in particular, can get very busy and hot in the summer. Elsewhere, the French Alps are more expensive to visit in Winter due to ski season, so it’s better to wait till Spring or Summer.

Students only need a valid passport, which must expire more than 3 months after your return date. There are no visa requirements for British citizens travelling to France, provided none of your students have visited the Schengen Area for more than 90 days in a 180 day period.

Most schools choose to visit France by coach. This usually involves an early start as the coach drives down to Dover, takes the ferry across the Channel, and then onwards to your destination. It’s a more sustainable and affordable option, plus you’ll have use of your coach whilst away. Alternatively, you can fly, which adds to the cost, but it does mean a shorter travel time.

            Lively and Vibrant Resort

The premier service continues on the slopes with a modern lift system and fabulous piste preparation, ensuring everyone has a superb ski experience. While the good variety of mountain huts offers stunning views, the great food offering will allow you to replenish the energy for your afternoon session on the slopes. Obertauern featured in the Beatles film ‘Help’, which shows as the musical and party heritage continues with a lively apres ski scene which starts around lunchtime. The price of the accommodation in the valley ensures that the slopes are never crowded – especially during the Easter holiday or in early December.

            Rich and Varied Skiing

Obertauern is an ideal resort for school groups and a short coach trip from your hotel (approx. 25 minutes) will take you to 100km of varied snow sure skiing. The 26 lifts are carefully positioned all around the resort to form a unique ski arena – the red Tauern round runs clockwise and the green Tauern round runs anticlockwise. The cleverly arranged system plus the majority of slopes being blue runs (61km) and red runs (35km) offers the possibility to ski the entire valley from a single lift and return to the same starting point – spacious ski bridges have been erected for crossing the road! This means plenty of piste for improving skiers to gain confidence and a perfect location for a school group.
