Possibly the prettiest resort of the Salzburger Sportwelt area and home to the famous downhill racer Hermann Maier or the ‘Herminator’ as he was affectionately known, who runs a ski school in the town.
With an incredible number of runs radiating down from the peak of the Griessenkareck Mountain – students can easily spend 45 minutes skiing down the mountain from top to bottom on just one run. Flachau offers a great range of long blue and red slopes with more testing black of the Top Liner lift a great challenge.
There are two main access points – one from the main town and a quieter more group friendly access point at the ‘Rote 8er’ or Red 8 gondola. There is a superb beginner’s area from the mid-station of the Red 8 with a mountain huts for lunch at the bottom or mid-station before heading up to the top of the Flachau ski area to explore the superb tree lined runs of the 3 Spacejet and 3 Starjet chairlifts – all slopes are well linked and superbly prepared and make progression easy for the group.
For beginners starting from the Flachau side there is a large beginner’s area at the top of the Achterjet gondola as well as two restaurants for lunch. The wide, open sunny bowl offers confidence building piste that will soon have everyone skiing over both sides of the mountain.
From the top of the Griessenkareck Mountain groups can also ski down the Flying Mozart runs to get access to the G-Link to return to the Wagrain side of the valley. Indeed, many of our beginners group by the end of the week are taking on the Flachau to Alpendorf ski safari – a great achievement.
