The heart of Western civilisation.

Having organised school trips to Rome for over 35 years, we think that, pound-for-pound, the Eternal City is the best value-for-money destination in Europe.

Travel and accommodation options are plentiful, good-quality, and affordable. The food is top-notch, as you would expect in Italy. And the Mediterranean climate means you can visit all year round.

But it’s the never-ending range of attractions, experiences, and jaw-dropping history that make Rome truly special. It doesn’t matter whether you want to focus on art, history, geography, religious studies, or something else – there’s nowhere else quite like it.

With so many options on the table, if you’re not familiar with the city, it can be tough to know where to start. Fortunately, that’s where our travel advisers come in. Our role is to put together the perfect itinerary for your learning objectives, book everything, and support you from start to finish.

Why Choose Rome For An Educational Tour?

Ancient Rome

Your students will be familiar with the Romans from film, TV, books, and maybe even their favourite video games.

But, until they visit, they might not grasp how Ancient Rome, with its vast empire and political drama, still permeates through modern society. A history trip to Rome is more than just seeing the Colosseum, entering the Pantheon, or having a picture taken at Trevi Fountain. It’s putting these incredible sights into context. It’s having this context to lean on when it comes to their exams. And, to paraphrase the great Robin Williams, it’s knowing “what it smells like in the Sistine Chapel”.

Cultural Experience

We can’t talk about Rome’s history and not mention the art. The two go hand-in-hand. Your pupils don’t have to take GCSE art to appreciate Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings or Raphael’s frescoes. They instantly capture your attention.

Then there’s the city itself. Everywhere you go there are ornate fountains, grand squares, and centuries-old sculptures, with modern life swirling around it all – morning espressos, evening aperitivo, and vespas weaving through busy streets.

It’s a unique cultural experience for your students – inspiring them to see the world beyond their home.

Italian Practice

If you’re an Italian teacher, giving your pupils the opportunity to practice in a real-world setting (while taking in all the sights, of course) makes for a brilliant trip.

In our experience, students absolutely love it. It can be a small interaction, such as ordering a gelato, or, for the more daring, holding a conversation with a local. Why not encourage them to ask for directions or a recommendation for a coffee-shop?

It’s a real confidence-booster for when they’re back in the classroom.

    Food, fun, and natural wonders.

We love Italy for a school trip. It’s accessible, affordable, totally delicious, and packed with fantastic learning experiences.

Of course, Rome is the most famous and most popular destination in the country, but if you’re looking for something a little different, the Bay of Naples is ideal. For teachers after an educational tour focusing on geography or food technology, we highly recommend this part of Italy.

We’ll create the perfect itinerary for your group, covering both the city of Napoli and the stunning surroundings. We’ll make sure the itinerary supports your curriculum with enriching activities, but balances it with opportunities to explore, have fun, and develop some independence.

Why Choose Naples For An Educational Tour?

    Explore Real-World Geography

The entire Bay of Naples is a living, breathing case study for your geography students.

The city, sitting on the Northern edge of the bay, is a classic example of urban expansion. It lies in direct view of Mount Vesuvius, which students can visit and peek inside the crater. They’ll learn why local communities continue to live at the base of an active volcano, and they’ll visit the remains of Pompeii and Herculaneum to see the devastation an eruption can cause.

Across the bay, the picturesque Sorrento acts as a luxurious gateway to the cliff-clinging villages of the Amalfi Coast. Over 5 million tourists descend on the area each year. This is a great opportunity to see the effects of tourism, both good and bad. And they can also study coastal erosion, sparking discussions on sustainability and responsible travel.

    Get Hands-On With Food

Naples is, quite famously, the birthplace of pizza. The volcanic soil around Mount Vesuvius also provide the perfect growing conditions for some of the world’s finest produce. Vineyards and orchards line the hills, while the local tomatoes are highly sought-after.

It goes without saying you’ll enjoy some of the best food that Italy has to offer in Naples (which is no mean feat), but it’s actually even better for food technology groups. Students can try their hand at making authentic Neapolitan pizzas. At the same time, they’ll learn more about dough fermentation, cooking temperatures, and the importance of fresh, local ingredients.

Afterwards, they can watch gelato being made at one of the city’s most famous gelaterias.

      Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of a school trip to Naples depends on the number of nights you stay and your chosen activities. This includes flights. For an exact price, please get in with our team.

The Bay of Naples is a major tourist spot. Naturally, it’s particularly busy throughout the summer season, which means higher prices for flights, accommodation and activities. Bearing in mind the extremely hot conditions between July and August, we tend to advise school groups to choose a different time of year. The shoulder seasons are still beautifully warm, but much less busy, for example.

You will fly to Napoli from the UK. Once you arrive, you will have private transport by coach to Sorrento in the Bay of Naples. Your coach will stay with your group for the duration of your trip. Many of the region’s main attractions, including Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii, sit between the city of Napoli and the Sorrento Peninsula – having a coach on hand makes them easy to visit.

The largest ski area in the Val di Fiemme
The largest ski area in the Val di Fiemme offering a wide range of slopes across 5 picturesque valleys. A real cultural experience as you head from the mainly Italian speaking Pampeago area and ski over to the mainly German speaking Obereggen resort – it pays to be tri-lingual in this area.
Our groups have run out of superlatives when trying to describe the beauty of the area, the slopes, the ski school and warmth of the people to us so all we can say is come and see at first-hand the resort that has left pupils and staff speechless.

      All-Season Skiing

A large network of mainly red and blue runs are spread across 5 valleys from the town of Predazzo into the hub of Pampeago and then across to Obereggen. A very snow sure area offering most of the skiing above 1700m, the Pampeago area offers great conditions all season long.

Most groups start from the Pampeago area with the main beginners slopes and meeting areas just above the car park (or the Sporthotel Pampeago if you are staying there) on the Latemar lift. A large wide snow bowl is a great starting area for beginners with two chairlifts to ensure a quick return. Progression is easy with numerous gentle blue and red runs winding their way across three valleys towards Obereggen, all linked with fast, comfortable chair lifts. A stop in the middle valley at the top of the Absam Maierl 6 person chairlift offers some of the most up-close and breathtaking views of the Dolomites in the area. Groups will ski on tree lined trails and more open motorway style slopes – all immaculately prepared. This superb preparation aids learning as pupils can trust the slopes under their skis and not worry about hitting rogue patches of ice etc. A better learning environment makes for a more confidence-building experience.

Challenges for Every Level of Skier

Progressing skiers will take on the more challenging slopes of Grappa Mountain, Chairway to Heaven and the Race Track (named by our groups – just ask for the full story.) on the Agnello side of the mountain before taking on the testing long black and red runs heading down from the top of the Passo Feudo chairlift to the Refugio Gardone (where the cable car from Predazzo arrives). For the ultimate challenge the Pala di Santa offers a deceptively easy start into a steep black run that will test the most advanced skiers. Overall every level of skier will find more than enough to challenge and push them during their visit and our ski school will ensure that every pupil reaches the best of their potential and has an unforgettable trip.

      Accommodation

      Hungry? You’re Spoilt for Choice

Food and the Italians go hand in hand and we use at least 5 different mountain restaurants in the resort. Students and staff get offered plenty of variety, from pizza and pasta to burgers and bratwurst all tastes can be catered for. The only problem might be skiing on a very full stomach after lunch.

Vibrant city that is bursting with visitor attractions.

Right here at home, York is a firm favourite with our school groups. Just two hours by train from London and easily accessible from any part of the country, it is a vibrant city that is bursting with visitor attractions.

York is steeped in cultural heritage, with its Roman and Norse ancestry, and the city is resplendent with beautiful architecture and iconic landmarks, such as York Minster – one of the world’s most impressive cathedrals.

      A trip down memory lane

Students can capture stunning views of the countryside and experience York’s stormy history with a visit to Clifford’s Tower, where Roger de Clifford was executed for treason and hanged in chains from the tower walls.

      Accommodation

      Excellent Excursions

The Jorvik Viking Centre is a recreation of the past and home to one of the most astonishing discoveries of recent times (which revealed the living environment of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik). Add to these; the Railway Museum, the Castle Museum, York Maze, York Dungeon, the famous shopping street “The Shambles” and you have the makings of a perfect trip.

Masterpieces, markets, and medieval charm combined.

Florence is a firm favourite for a school tour, and for good reason – it’s packed with incredible learning opportunities.

From the 14th to 16th centuries, the city rose to prominence under the influence of the powerful Medici family. It soon became a centre of academia and art in Europe, spurred on by the likes of Botticelli, Dante, Donatello, da Vinci, and Michelangelo.

Your students will explore their legacy and Florence’s golden age. And it doesn’t matter whether you want to focus on art, science, maths, or language, we can tailor your trip to fit.

Our travel advisers will plan your school trip to Florence from start to finish. We’ll create an age-appropriate, educational itinerary, bespoke for your group. All you need to do is get in touch, and we’ll take it from there.

Why Choose Florence For An Educational Tour?

      Inspire your art students

In Florence, your group will see the enduring works of celebrated Renaissance artists and sculptors. Witnessing countless works by Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, and Raphael provides an unforgettable and inspiring experience for young minds.

The city’s Uffizi Gallery is a true highlight. But, there’s also the Gallery of Modern Art, for something different, and Galleria dell’Accademia, which is home to Michelangelo’s statue of David.

      Perfect for several subjects

The art of the Renaissance is incredible, but a school trip to Florence doesn’t stop there. It’s an opportunity to discover the far-reaching impact the movement had across other disciplines – architecture, scientific discovery, philosophical thought, and even literature.

Visits to Brunelleschi’s dome, the Galileo Museum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa are ideal for a STEM-focused tour. Meanwhile, language students can practice their skills in the birthplace of the modern Italian language.

        Snow Guaranteed

Two large snow sure bowls and a long chute run to the valley make up the Cermis area. Cermis has the best snow record in the valley and you are always guaranteed the best conditions and piste preparation here. The first bowl above the Eurotel and gondola top station offers beginners a large wide play area to finish the week before heading down the 4.5km Via del Bosco to the mid-station. Progressing skiers head over into the ‘back bowl’ served by the Prafiori chairlift to explore the long red runs and many off-piste options with their instructor. Those up for the challenge of the Olympia runs may start off with a few runs on the Costabella and Carlo Donei slopes and when ready they can have a go at the first section before the more challenging Olympia 2 (which offers stunning views across the valley) and then the more relaxed red slope of Olympia 3.

Why Choose Italy For An Educational Tour?

        The ancient history

Few countries can lay claim to having had as much of an impact on modern society, especially in Europe, as Italy. And that is, by and large, thanks to the Roman Empire.

Lasting 500 years in the west (longer in the east), and stretching from Hadrian’s Wall to the deserts of Mesopotamia, the scale of the Empire was truly astounding. The wealth and success, the legacy, and the stories of Ancient Rome are on full display for your students throughout Italy.

        The value beyond history

History isn’t the only aspect of our educational trips to Italy, though.

It’s brilliant for geography students, too. In Naples, you can learn more about Mount Vesuvius and the impact of volcanic activity, both past and present. On the nearby Amalfi Coast, they’ll discover more about the effects of tourism.

Art students can visit the centre of the Renaissance, Florence. They’ll walk the same streets as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, inspired by masterpieces in the Uffizi Gallery. Meanwhile, those passionate about STEM will be blown away by the story, and engineering, behind Brunelleschi’s Dome.

Finally, interacting with waiters, shopkeepers, tour guides, and locals is an excellent opportunity for Italian-language learners to practice their skills.

The delicious food (and everything else)

Visiting Italy is a special cultural experience. The delicious food, the heart-warming traditions, the lovely weather, the savouring of simple joys – it all combines to create something beautiful.

Travel is all about learning, experiencing, and developing into more rounded people. Italy offers a wonderful introduction to this mindset. And it might just spark a lifelong passion for seeing the world.

          Frequently Asked Questions

This depends on where you go and how long for. Plus, there’s the cost of different activities. We’ll keep it budget-friendly by organising a mix of activities tailored to your objectives. This will include both free (e.g. the Trevi Fountain) and paid (e.g. the Colosseum) attractions.

We recommend avoiding the peak of summer, when Italian cities can be uncomfortably hot, humid, and packed with tourists. The best time to visit with a school group is in the shoulder seasons: April – May or September – October. It’s warm, without being overbearing, it’s more affordable, and the main attractions are far less crowded.

Students only need a valid passport, which must expire more than 3 months after your return date. There are no visa requirements for British citizens travelling to Italy, provided none of your students have visited the Schengen Area for more than 90 days in a 180 day period.

Our groups fly to Italy. It’s served by all major airlines operating out of the UK, so you’ll likely be able to travel from a nearby airport. Once you’re there, we’ll arrange transport for any activities and visits you have planned.

Get to the Snow – Fast

The Bellamonte / Alpe Lusia ski area offers skiing on two sides of the mountain. The Bellamonte side is the main starting point for our groups and the wide gentle slopes are accessed by the new fast Castelir gondola cuts the ascent time from 22 minutes down to 8 minutes – getting you on the snow faster than ever. The sweeping blue runs down the mountain offer a superb teaching environment and our professional ski school will ensure that your pupils develop their skills to the best of their ability, with the possibility to spend some time in the snow cross park. Skiers of all levels will love the best ‘home’ run in the valley – at almost 6km long the run from the top of the Campo Laste chairlift down the Zirmes, Le Fassane & Castelir slopes is a cruisers delight and a great leg burner to finish your day.

          Challenging Runs and Long Descents

The rolling piste of the La Clune run leads you down to the stunning ‘Trolls Café’ a must see for it’s themed basement restaurant. Take the La Clune lift and head to the Alpe Lusia where you will discover a couple of challenging black runs plus a few testing reds, forming a long descent of almost 4km down to the Moena Gondola. You will also find a few relaxing blue runs plus the fun of another ski cross park.

          Accommodation

          Vistas and Pizzas

One visit and you too will fall in love with the Beautiful Mountain and discover why so many of our groups put this resort number 1 on their list when they visit the Val di Fiemme. For lunch, no one goes hungry in Bellamonte. The food served at El Zirmo or the Rifugio Bucaneve disappears as fast as it appears, including the enormous cart-wheel pizzas. If you are on the Alpe Luisa side, the Chalet Valbona offers refined dining and the Agri-Bar a more rustic experience that makes it well worth a visit.
