Possibly one of Austria’s most underrated ski areas, Schladming lies within the beautiful Dachstein Mountain region – in the southern Austrian province of Styria. Four linked mountains provide the main ski area which includes 160km of piste.
Schladming hosted the World Ski Championships in 2013 and seriously invested heavily in new ski lifts. This investment has been well worth it – queues are kept short and speedy lifts give you more time for the downhills – your bottom will be kept cosy even on the chilliest of days.
This combined with the snow sure Dachstein glacier, ensures that good skiing conditions are guaranteed whenever you come to ski.

Great for Everyone, Perfect for Intermediate Skiers
All abilities are catered for and with a high proportion of runs rated red, Schladming is ideally suited to intermediates. Much of the skiing is in the tree-line, helping visibility, plus there’s some good opportunities for ducking off, in the right conditions, to find a bit of powder to play in. For the more advanced skiers – the challenging downhill used annually for the men’s World Cup night slalom is particularly popular.Variety is the Spice of Life
High mileage skiing is guaranteed on the wide variety of slopes and with the Dachstein glacier on the same ski pass – skiing is guaranteed. The new connections between Hauser Kaibling, Planai – Hochwurzen and Reiteralm have created one of the best interlinked ski areas in Austria. The range and variety will keep all levels of skier in a rapturous state for the duration of their stay.Beginners will use the extremely well-ordered, ample nursery areas on the lower slopes on each of the mountains to build confidence before progressing further afield to explore thze full area on a wide range of interconnecting blue and red runs. An intermediates paradise, early intermediates will find the blue runs at Rohrmoos and on Reiteralm particularly pleasing before moving onto some lovely cruising pistes and long runs such as the 4.6km FIS run and the 7.7km Hochwurzen valley run.
For the advanced skier, there are two world-class downhill runs of 5kms each in the Sport Region Schladming area. The Planai itself boasts a couple of very bumpy black runs , including (for the more adventurous) the World Cup downhill, not to be missed, the exhilarating steep final straight is a never to be forgotten experience. Hauser Kaibling hosts rounds of the World Cup Women’s Downhill and the Dachstein Glacier is also available by ski bus (included on the lift-pass) thus guaranteeing snow.
