The traditional villages of Auffach, Niederau, Oberau and Thierbach combine their charm and charisma to form the enchanting Wildschönau ski area in Austria. Wildschönau has fused together their picturesque settings and extraordinary atmosphere creating a unique skiing resort.

Each village delivers their own exclusive qualities in terms of their level, detail and diversity of slope. The area supplies a variety of pistes from wide-ranging beginner slopes to challenging and adventurous slopes for the more advanced. Above the forestry a selection of runs begin, leading you on a journey through the pine woodland and beautiful serene forest. Along with this breath-taking scenery these four communities offer a school ski trip experience like no other.

The local area is known for its national heritage and boasts a reputation for its warm, genuine and friendly welcome meaning you will be hard pushed to find an Austrian setting more striking or containing more character. Wildschonau is linked by a quick ski-shuttle bus which comfortably transports you around the resort, but the main lure is the installation of a new 8-person gondola linking Wildschonau with neighbouring Alpbachtal.

Away from the slopes are a range of activities which are available for all, from walking trails through the valleys, to classical cross country tracks, and daring toboggan runs.



Each village brings their own personal qualities to the Wildschonau ski resort. With a wide range of pistes covering a considerable 145km. Beginners can start off by heading for the nurseries of Oberau and attempting the smooth blue runs before venturing on to the more advanced intermediate red slopes over on Auffach. For the experienced skier the thrill-seeking black runs can be found on Niederau.

Oberau sports plenty of short runs for beginners where they can acquire the basics of ski on wide, effortless runs. A small section of the pistes at Oberau are covered by snow making facilities. Niederau possibly has the most diverse ground with various challenging red routes and several thrilling black runs. Niederau also has an exhilarating mogul run with a vertical drop of almost 700 meters. On the open mountain are directly above the resort Auffach has the most snow sure skiing in the area. Auffach has the largest vertical and the highest lifts and with its two stage gondola it allows you to accesses plenty of exciting red runs.

The slopes of Thierbach are all north facing and plentiful with natural snow. With spectacular views of the Kitzbuhel Alps, Thierbach has a range of immaculate slopes suitable for all. Snowboarders have plenty to choose from in Wildschonau with its extensive runs, two-half pipes and a terrain park.
