BRUGES

Overview

Often referred to as the “Venice of the North”, Bruges is without doubt one of the most picturesque cities in Europe – its complete historical centre has been included on the World Heritage list! Absorb the atmosphere and view the remarkable architecture and monuments with a leisurely tour on a canal boat trip. For something a little different, take a visit to the 800 year-old Hospital Museum, which contains stories, objects and works left by the monks and nuns who worked there.

And, of course – chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! Belgium is world-renowned for its chocolatiers and a trip to Bruges is not complete without a visit to Roose’s Chocolate World, where the traditional making of their chocolate will be demonstrated in the shop ‐ with free tastings afterwards! Alternatively, the impressive medieval Market Square, plays host to a market where you will find traditional, handmade and local produce. Both excursions are ideal for food technology students whilst in Bruges.
